The mission of the South Dakota Board of Examiners of Psychologists is to protect the health and safety of the consumer public by licensure of qualified persons, enforcement of the statutes, rules and regulations governing the practice of psychology, including the appropriate resolution of complaints.

The board shall issue a license as a psychologist to an applicant who: (1) Has a doctoral degree from a regionally accredited university or professional school of psychology , or is recognized by the Association of Universities and Colleges of Canada as a member in good standing;, The mission of the South Dakota Board of Examiners for Counselors & Marriage and Family Therapists is to protect the South Dakota consumers of counseling and marriage and family therapy services by mandatory licensing of qualified counselor applicants. Board members are appointed by the Governor to three-year terms.
